Week 39 - Delicious Peanut Butter Bars

Back in the 80's the lunch ladies at high school still actually made some things from scratch. One great memory was the friday lunch. You could always depend on the rectangle slice of pizza, canned green beans, and the amazingly delicious peanut butter bar. It was just no cookie that was put into large baking sheets and cut into squares. It was a bartering tool at the school. The pizza was from a box and the green beans were from a can. The delicious peanut butter bars were made from scratch.



A couple years back a friend got her hands on this recipe. It actually came from a River Valley High School alumni that new a lunch lady. These bar will melt in you mount! If you are a River Valley High School Alumni then you will be transported back to the days when your hair had aqua net plastered all through it!



Delicious River Valley High School Peanut Butter Bars!

1 Cup peanut butter (the all natural versions do not work as well)

1 cup softened butter

1 cup brown sugar



1 cup white sugar

1 tsp vanilla

1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp baking soda

2 cups flour

1 1/2 cups old fashioned rolled oats


Cream together the first 5 ingredients, then add the remaining 4 ingredients. Press into 9x13 pan and bake at 350 degrees for 25 - 35 minutes. Make sure the middle doesn't look raw.
